Pursuant to the January 31 Agreement, today we released our First Quarterly Report covering the period from my appointment on February 28 through June 30, 2019.
The Report provides our early findings, observations, recommendations and is a beginning – a solid beginning, but only that. At the very outset of the Monitorship, I committed to engaging directly with residents. By the end of June, we have been in contact with 239 Tenant Association Presidents and I have personally spoken to well over 100. We have also visited 115 developments across all five boroughs.
As you read this report please bear in mind that this encompasses only a few months of our work. NYCHA has been deteriorating and failing for far longer. I believe positive changes can and will be made, that some will come sooner than others but by everyone working together we will achieve our collective mission to serve the interests of all NYCHA residents.
The report is available here and as always, I welcome hearing your comments and suggestions. We look forward to seeing you at our second public Community Advisory Committee meeting for residents and other stakeholders on Tuesday, July 30, at 6:30 pm at the Johnson Community Center gym at 1833 Lexington Ave., Manhattan.
Very truly yours,
Bart M. Schwartz
