Staten Island Community Meeting Summary & Recording: January 10, 2021

January 11, 2021

On Tuesday, January 10, 2021, via Zoom, NYCHA Federal Monitor Bart M. Schwartz and the monitoring team’s Resident Engagement Team Leader, Asha Muldro, hosted the Staten Island Community Meeting. More than 70 residents, tenant association presidents, elected officials, and NYCHA staff members connected to the virtual event. A recording of the meeting is available here.

Mr. Schwartz opened the meeting by sending his prayers to those injured during a fire at the Sotomayor Houses earlier that day. He then spent time explaining the different types of plans and reports issued by NYCHA and the monitoring team, as well as clarifying the differences between them. Mr. Schwartz suggested to all stakeholders to read the next Quarterly Report which will include a memo of deadlines, and a tracker document with more information about individual work streams and action plans.  He emphasized the monitoring team’s focus will be on making improvements just by improving business practices.

During the public session of the meeting residents expressed their concerns, provided recommendations, and asked questions. In addition, NYCHA residents outside of the Staten Island community were able to participate.

In his closing remarks, Mr. Schwartz encouraged residents to continue to stay in contact with the monitoring team. You can email the Monitor or call (844) 309-6080.

The next Community Advisory Committee meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at 6:00 PM. It will be streamed live on the NYCHA Monitor’s YouTube channel. The next Community Meeting for Brooklyn residents is scheduled for Tuesday, March 16, 2021.
