Update from the Monitor

Tuesday, March 26, 2019

Welcome to the NYCHA federal Monitor’s website. Since my appointment on February 28, 2019 as NYCHA federal Monitor, members of my team and I have spoken to numerous residents, organized conference calls with Tenant Association Presidents, attended Tenant Association meetings and visited individual developments to see the conditions residents are living in. In the coming weeks and months, I will continue this outreach to residents, and also meet with elected officials and other stakeholders.

Under the terms of the Agreement which appointed me, I will establish a Community Advisory Committee (CAC) consisting of NYCHA stakeholders including NYCHA’s Resident Advisory Board, residents, community and employee representatives, senior NYCHA managers, and other relevant stakeholders to solicit input on helping achieve the Agreement’s purpose. The first CAC meeting will occur before my first report is due on May 28, 2019. Although the Agreement requires that the CAC meet at least quarterly, I plan to convene these meetings every other month and each time in a different borough. That way, we will have six CAC meetings a year which maximizes resident and stakeholder participation and feedback as we work together towards achieving better living conditions for all NYCHA residents. Additional details about CAC will be forthcoming.

If you are interested in serving on the CAC or have recommendations for it, please email me at monitor@nychamonitor.com.
